Postage #1

If the envelope for a greeting card says “Extra Postage Required” in the upper-right-hand corner where the stamp goes, they mean it.  It is unlikely that the card will reach the recipient without extra postage.

A Forever Stamp does not constitute extra postage.

Extra postage may be required because the envelope plus the card inside weighs more than one ounce.  If you add a gift card to a greeting card, you ought to check to make sure that the envelope still weighs less than an ounce.

Extra postage may also be required because of its shape.  Anything that the postal service can’t handle with its machinery costs extra.

Postage costs go up over time, but right now the surcharge is 20 cents for each extra ounce, and for an odd shape.
